Introduction to the classification of centrifuge tubes

The centrifuges selected for centrifuges due to speed requirements, samples and other reasons are different. There are three main types of centrifuges. Today I will give you a brief introduction.


1. Plastic centrifuge tube

The advantages of plastic centrifuge tubes are transparent or translucent, its hardness is small, and the gradient can be taken out by puncture method. Disadvantages are easy to deform, poor corrosion resistance to organic solvents, and short service life. Plastic centrifuge tubes have a tube cover, its role is to prevent sample leakage, especially when used for radioactive or highly corrosive samples, it is very important to prevent sample leakage; the tube cover also has a role to prevent sample evaporation And support the centrifuge tube to prevent the centrifuge tube from deforming. When selecting this point, we must also pay attention to check whether the tube cover is tight, whether it can be tightly sealed during the test, so as to achieve no liquid leakage when inverted; we all know that in plastic centrifuge tubes, commonly used materials are polyethylene (PE), polycarbonate Ester (PC), polypropylene (PP), etc., among which the performance of polypropylene PP tubes will be relatively good, so, when we choose plastic centrifuge tubes, we should consider polypropylene plastic centrifuge tubes as much as possible.


2. Glass centrifuge tube

When using glass tubes, the centrifugal force should not be too large. Rubber pads are needed to prevent the tubes from breaking. High-speed centrifuges generally do not use glass tubes. The closure of the centrifuge tube cover is not good enough, the liquid cannot be filled up (for high-speed centrifuges and angle rotors are used) to prevent overflow and loss of balance. The consequence of overflow is to pollute the rotor and the centrifugal cavity, affecting the normal operation of the sensor. During ultracentrifugation, the liquid must be filled with the centrifuge tube, because the ultra separation requires high vacuum, and the deformation of the centrifuge tube can only be avoided if it is filled up.

3. Steel centrifuge tube

The steel centrifuge tube is strong, non-deformable, resistant to heat, frost, and chemical corrosion. It is also widely used, but it should also avoid contact with strong corrosive chemicals, such as strong acids and alkalis. Try to avoid the corrosion of these chemicals.
